Kay McCracken moved from Vancouver to Salmon Arm, BC in 1993 and opened a bookstore named Reflections. The bookstore closed Dec. 31, 1998.
Her memoir, A Raven in My Heart: Reflections of a Bookseller, was published by Gracesprings Collective and launched June 13, 2009 at the SAGA Public Art Gallery in Salmon Arm. The Shuswap Association of Writers sponsored this event.

Kay’s stories and poems appear in various journals and chapbooks, and as a highlight she read her poem about bill bissett at the Vancouver launch of the book, radiant danse uv being: a poetic portrait of bill bissett (Nightwood Editions). Her poem “excellent birds” was reprinted in BC Bookworld.

She has been elected to the board of directors for the Federation of BC Writers three years in a row and enjoys serving the writers in her area as Regional Representative.

When Kay isn’t co-founding a festival (the Shuswap Lake International Writers’ Festival/ June 2003), organizing readings, giving readings, or writing, she can be found working to deadline on her monthly literary column.
